Swiss Train Rally with an overnight stay in Lugano

Our group will participate on Saturday at the train rally, but in the evening we will travel to Lugano. After spending the night in Lugano, we will visit on Sunday Locarno, the island of Brissago on Lago Maggiore, and Ascona.

Please note, that as we have to travel to Lugano in the evening, we will not attend the party on Saturday night. We will sleep in a hostel – the rooms are mixed (6 person rooms).

Don’t forget your bathing suit (apparently bathing in the lake near the island is allowed); pyjamas, underwear, necessaire etc.

Included:

Train tickets for Saturday and Sunday (only when we travel as a group).

Overnight stay at the hostel in Lugano (no dinner, no breakfast).

Entry to the botanical gardens on the Island of Brissago.

Not Included:

Food and beverages

Itinerary – it still must be confirmed by SBB, so no exact times are specified yet.

Saturday, 18.05.2024:

We meet at 06:50 in the main hall of Zurich HB under the blue angel.

We visit two or three cities/villages - surprise!

In the evening, we travel to Lugano.

Free time in Lugano.

Sunday, 19.05.2024:

Around 10:00 we leave for Locarno.

We visit Locarno.

At noon we take a boat to the island.

Afterwards we visit Ascona for approx. an hour.

We take the train back to Zurich and arrive before 21:00.

General Pieces of Information – Swiss Train Rally

Have you ever felt like doing something but didn't quite know what to do? Have you already crossed all the beautiful sites you wanted to visit in Switzerland from your bucket list? Don't worry, we got you covered. This event will bring you to 3 to 4 different cities in Switzerland, so chances are you'll find some new cool gems all over the country.

But which cities are we going to visit? Well, that's the catch: You won't know it. To be honest, we won't even know until the very few days before the event either. It will be a surprise for all of us. Participants will sign up into different teams and each team will experience a somewhat different day. There will be some challenges throughout the day for us to solve on our journey.

But we haven't told you the best yet: This is a national event, which means that we will be meeting other teams from other ESN sections. We might even have the chance to do some fun challenges against other ESN sections.

To further strengthen the bounds to the other sections and celebrate with the people you met during the day, ESN organized a party in the final city. You'll have free entry and there will be cheap drinks.

If you have a GA/full fare you pay 30CHF less than the shown prices. However, please email us directly after your registration so we can finalize your registration. Otherwise, the system will cancel your reservation after the payment deadline.

Owning a “Halbtax” or “GA Night” does not offer any additional discount.

Registration space for people aged 25 or over is limited. The registration for people aged 25 or above will be on a first come first serve basis, however we reserve the right to give priority to exchange students who only started their exchange this semester.

We might need to cancel your registration or move you to a different group if you are 25 years or older and all the spots are already taken in this group.

Also, note that the meeting time might be a bit flexible, i.e. we won't be meeting all at 7. Similarly, the end time is not yet fixed. Chances are that we will be back in Zürich before 23:55. There will be the option to skip the party and be back in Zürich around 8pm. If you have a GA you can of course also travel back independently.

If you would like to sign up together with your friends, make sure that everyone registers for the same group (see event title). Changing groups can be difficult, so we recommend to coordinate with your friends which group you want to join. Once a group is fully booked, you need to find a person in that specific group to swap with you in order to join the group.

By signing up you automatically accept that your personal information will be shared with the Organizing Committee of the Train Rallye 2024, and kept for 14 days. Please state in the comments if you refuse that.
